The shallow waters of the bay are a sanctuary for prized inshore game fish. You can expect to reel in Speckled Trout, Redfish, and Flounder, as well as Sheepshead and Black Drum. A half day trip is normally enough time to find some nice specimens, and it will allow you to take your whole family on a fun adventure.

Are you looking for a bigger adrenaline rush? The deep waters of the Gulf are calling your name. Head out to the reefs for some big Snapper, Grouper, and Amberjack, or go further offshore to cast a line for Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Marlin, Sailfish, and many more. A full day trip, or an extended full day, would be your best option if your interests lie in the Gulf.

When it comes to finding a charter, that’s a piece of cake. You’ll find them dotted all along the Bolivar Peninsula, so just head out to the nearest dock and choose. Galveston and Texas City are nearby alternatives with an even wider array of options.

You can usually expect lots of wind and rain at the beginning of the year. But if the rain doesn’t mess with your plans, you’ll have a great time targeting Redfish and Trout.
February
Go near the jetties and target Sheepshead and Black Drum. Redfish and Speckled Trout are targets at this time of the year.
March
In March, Black Drum reach their peak season. If you’re more interested in the Gulf species, Mackerel start to show in higher numbers.
April
As the water becomes warmer, Speckled Trout start their spawning season. If you’re up for an offshore trip to the Gulf, Mahi Mahi is a great fish to target!
May
Head out to the jetties and target Sharks! They increase in number even more in June and you can catch Hammerhead, Blacktip, or Tiger Shark.
June
With summer comes Red Snapper season! Nearshore trips are great and you can catch Cobia, Kingfish, and Sharks.
July
As there’s less Flounder than usual, the best action is in deeper waters. Move closer to Galveston or head out straight to the Gulf.
August
In August, the peak season for Speckled Trout starts. On top of that, Redfish begin to spawn at the end of the month. Fishing in the bay is amazing!
September
Flounder gigging gets much better in fall, so try out a night adventure with a guide. The fish migrate toward the back of the bay.
October
The bay is full of Redfish and Speckled Trout. Flounder peak season is starting, so this is the best time to go after the Big Three.
November
Redfish and Flounder are the best choice for your trip. There’s not a lot of action in the Gulf, so staying in the bay is your best option.
December
While this is a slow month for most fish species, the Big Three still hold their numbers and make the trip worth the effort. Dress in layers, as it’s cold and windy.

Captain Ronnie got us on the red drum early. We able to limit on reds. We also caught two 37" bull reds that made good photo trophies before being released. After that we caught our share of speckled trout and a few black drum. Would definitely recommend Captain Ronnie Scheck's Crystal Beach Fishing. Fair price, great guide, lots of fish.

Wow, what a great day! Captain Allen was super. He took the time to teach and guide my 12-year old grandson to fish on the bay, identify how to locate fish, and most importantly how to catch and land big bull reds. We limited out in less than 90 minutes and threw back many oversized reds. Wonderful day. We would highly, highly recommend Captain Mark Allen.

We had a great time! No one put was catching many fish but we caught enough for supper and he spent extra time taking us different places to keep trying. We caught about four red fish but they were a little small but the last place we went, we caught enough fish for our dinner. The water and wind were pretty rough for fishing but it kept us cool. Mark helped us every step of the way.

Fishing trip was awesomeโ€ฆjust couldnโ€™t find enough keepers to limit out. However, I bet we caught over 100 fish and the majority were speckled trout. Captain Ronnie hit several different locations trying to find the elusive big fishโ€ฆtides and wind were not in our favor! Captain was great, worked his butt off for us. His boat was top of the line, comfortable, clean and plenty of room to easily move around. Highly recommend captain Ronnie, I plan on booking again next time Iโ€™m in Bolivar.

The day was great. We had a party of 10 people and they all had a fun time. Captain was very professional and pleasant to work with. He knew what he was doing. The kids caught (2) larger sharks during the trip and some smaller sharks and other fish as well. Definitely great lasting memories. Thank you!

Captain Ronnie had his work cut out for him on our trip. He worked the wind and put us on the fish. This was a very pleasant trip. We caught redfish, black drum, sheepshead, flounder, a sting ray, speckled trout, etc and really had a great morning. Looking forward to our next trip to Bolivar! Weโ€™ll definitely use him again.
